Since leaving WWE last year, Matt Riddle has kept himself busy by working for a number of promotions, such as MLW, NJPW, and independent promotions.
In February, Riddle defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi to win the NJPW World TV Title. Riddle won the race by hitting the BroDerek in the end. Tanashi’s 50-day reign as NJPW World TV Champion came to an end with this, marking Riddle’s first.
After being pinned at Friday’s NJPW Windy Riot event, Riddle lost the title match to Zack Sabre Jr. Despite losing, Riddle grinned as he exited the ring, sparking rumors that he might have finished up with the promotion.
Dave Meltzer stated on Wrestling Observer Radio that Riddle still has NJPW dates scheduled despite the rumors.
Meltzer stated, “Also, real quick. There were people who thought that because Matt Riddle lost the TV Title to Zack Sabre last night, that was it for Matt Riddle. And at least as of right now, Matt Riddle still has bookings in New Japan. They just made the decision to take the title from him.”
