WWE has made every effort to contain certain fans’ expectations about tonight’s high-profile Survivor Series event in Chicago and their belief that CM Punk will rejoin the company after leaving AEW.
There have been numerous reports claiming that WWE is not interested in bringing him back. There have also been Punk references on television, though those references are reportedly not meant as hints and are not done on purpose.
WWE went out of their way to make it clear that it wouldn’t be Punk by announcing Randy Orton’s return as the mystery partner for World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, and Cody Rhodes in the Men’s WarGames Match at Survivor Series.
Punk is not mentioned in any graphics, rundowns, or plans for the show, according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select. Both WWE and Punk have stated to friends that he will not be attending Survivor Series.
Fans who thought there were intentional references were looking for something that wasn’t there, according to Triple H.
The report stated, “Top talent were outright told that CM Punk wasn’t coming in for Survivor Series when they asked. This includes talent that are at the level and in situations where it wouldn’t make sense to lie to them and wouldn’t be beneficial to a great locker room.”
Also, key creative names have been informed that he will not be joining the team, and no creative plans for him are known to the rest of the team. Punk is still under fire within the company.
Punk reportedly told at least one close friend that he recently spoke with a WWE higher-up. However, no context was provided for that conversation.
