For decades, WWE couldn’t control how fans in arenas reacted to segments and matches, but they did their best to get the desired reactions from their most ardent fans based on booking.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020, wrestling changed forever as it emphasized the importance of live fans to the product to the point where WWE began using NXT stars as fans during its shows.
They later introduced the ThunderDome, in which fans appeared on screens after activating their computer/phone camera and could make noise that way.
WWE later began using fan recordings to get the cheers and boos they desired. These days, cheers are mostly used to get a babyface over.
As seen below, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful noticed some noticeable boos piped in during RAW this week.

The piped in boos are really bad tonight. Just rely on Dominik and Logan Paul to get the reactions, they can do it. They're playing the exact same audio repeatedly.
