At the 2022 Royal Rumble, Ronda Rousey made a triumphant return to the WWE and began her second stint with the company. She has since been used as a top star, with runs as a singles champion and a tag team champion.
At the WWE Money in the Bank premium live event, Rousey and Shayna Baszler lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships to Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez after Shayna attacked Rousey from behind and choked her out. Morgan and Raquel won the match with their finisher.
This set up their feud because Rousey wanted to repay Shayna for getting her into the business before taking another break from WWE. As previously reported, Rousey’s current WWE contract has an expiration date.
This Saturday at SummerSlam, Rousey will face Baszler in an MMA Rules match. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported in the most recent issue that Rousey will be taking time off from the company soon.
Meltzer wrote, “It’s not confirmed whether this is Rousey’s last match in WWE for the time being, but her departure is coming relatively soon since they had to rush the turn angle. We do know the reason nothing was announced is because they hadn’t settled on exactly what MMA rules means.”
