Despite interest from other promotions, including WWE, AEW President Tony Khan was able to keep RUSH under contract.
As PWMania.com previously reported, RUSH confirmed his re-signing with AEW this week in a social media post. This followed reports that WWE was interested in the former ROH World Champion. Khan wants to keep talent on board for the long haul.
Due to RUSH’s lack of use by AEW, some people speculated that he was almost certainly headed for WWE.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that RUSH signed a new deal with AEW after his previous year expired. CM Punk has publicly advocated for RUSH’s inclusion on Rampage.
As his contract had expired, RUSH gained some bargaining power. The new contract is thought to be for several years.
Regarding WWE’s interest, multiple people within the company stated that they wanted to bring him in for NXT and would make him a much bigger offer than just about anyone in NXT because they knew AEW would make a significant offer.
Meltzer wrote, “However, WWE never made an official offer because when they found out what AEW offered, they knew there was no way he was going to WWE.” It was added that someone in WWE called the offer “insane money.”
