All indications point to the former AEW World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk returning to AEW, months after he got into a brawl with The Elite backstage and ripped several wrestlers (Hangman Page, Colt Cabana, & The Young Bucks) at the AEW All Out post-event press conference.
It is tentatively scheduled to take place this summer. Click here for more information regarding his expected return. Before his return, AEW President Tony Khan still needs to resolve some backstage disagreements with Punk and others.
As PWMania.com previously reported, AEW may have an idea to diffuse the conflict between those who don’t get along with Punk and those who like him by having him appear on the rumored Saturday show, which is expected to debut this summer.
Dave Meltzer mentioned a meeting with Khan, Punk, Jericho, and other wrestlers is scheduled while speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio. It’s odd that The Elite isn’t mentioned as being present in the meeting.
“There is a meeting soon and involves Chris Jericho, Tony Khan, CM Punk, FTR, and there may be others in there as well. That’s coming up. I guess the idea is to resolve everything or attempt to resolve everything,” Meltzer stated.
Not everyone in AEW wants to keep quiet about their feelings toward CM Punk, according to Meltzer. He said, “It’s going to be interesting. Tony Khan wants Punk back, to be the star of the Saturday show and it’s probably…I’m pretty sure it’s going to happen.”
