On Saturday, May 6, WWE will broadcast this year’s Backlash premium live event live from Puerto Rico at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot. The night before, they will also host a live episode of SmackDown at the same location.
This will be the first PLE following WrestleMania 39, but two major stars will be missing. After losing the SmackDown Women’s Title to Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 39, Charlotte Flair, as PWMania.com previously reported, is taking a break from the WWE.
We also know that Roman Reigns will not be there. On the second night of WrestleMania, Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. After the match, there was some speculation that WWE might feature a tag match in which Rhodes and Reigns would face off with partners of their choosing. However, with Brock Lesnar and Rhodes currently feuding, WWE is moving away from that idea for the time being.
Reigns is not scheduled for Backlash, according to Dave Meltzer’s report in the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Meltzer stated, “Reigns will not be on the San Juan card, or at least that wasn’t the plan on Monday, but he will be doing other major events over the next few months.”
Reigns is not scheduled to appear on tonight’s SmackDown, but WWE has some interesting plans for The Bloodline.
