WWE color commentator Pat McAfee, along with Shannon Sharpe, is being sued by legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre for defamatory remarks they made about him regarding the Mississippi welfare case fraud.
Favre also sued Mississippi Auditor Shad White for making defamatory statements about the case.
According to the lawsuit, McAfee referred to Favre as a “”thief” who was “stealing from poor people in Mississippi.” The former quarterback repaid the $1.1 million he received but not the $228,000 in interest that was requested. He claimed that he was unaware of the source of the funds. After Favre paid back the money, White requested another $5 million because Favre received $5 million from the welfare fund to pay for a volleyball arena at Favre’s alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi.
McAfee addressed the lawsuit during his radio show today.
“I’m getting sued by Brett Farve. Yup, we made it, boys,” McAfee said.
McAfee then raised a glass to his crew before saying, “I’m getting sued alongside Shannon Sharpe and an auditor by Missipi by Brett f**king Favre. Brett Favre is suing me in a defamation lawsuit, saying I defamed his name to try to earn a profit. With this, I believe, comes discovery and depositions and all these other things.”
“So I would like to let the New York lawyers who wrote me two letters before this thing got announced,” McAfee added before noting what they said in the letter, McAfee stated that they wanted him to remove any and all mention of Favre from the archives of his radio show, Twitter, and YouTube library. He referred to it as a warning shot.
“So I looked at that and said, ‘That’s hilarious.’ Of course, we’re not doing that. Put that down, move on with my life.”
McAfee was told a few days later that he had until Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. Eastern to issue a public apology to Favre and remove all content containing Farve’s name. He claims he was caught in a pickleball game, that time passed, and now he’s being sued.
