Stephanie McMahon announced her departure from WWE as an executive a few weeks ago, and now the internal story details about her departure are public.
On January 10, Stephanie announced her resignation as WWE’s Chairwoman and Co-CEO. This shift occurred just days after her father, Vince McMahon, was re-elected to the Board of Directors alongside George Barrios and Michelle Wilson. Vince is now the Board’s Executive Chairman.
Stephanie announced her departure from WWE last summer, only to return after Vince’s hush money scandal broke. He eventually resigned from his WWE responsibilities.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Stephanie knew it was only a matter of time before she was demoted following Vince’s return and left because she didn’t need the money/job, especially after making the decision months ago to leave anyway.
“The story internally as to why Stephanie McMahon really left is that, and this comes from those unhappy that she left, is that she had done a great job thrown into the co-CEO role, and with Vince back, was about to be demoted and basically she doesn’t need the money or the job and had already decided last year to take a leave anyway. Of course, the difference between a leave and staying on the Board, and a full break and leaving the Board, indicates this was a lot stronger move,” Meltzer wrote.
Vince has stated that he is returning to help negotiate WWE’s upcoming television deals and to look into the possibility of selling the company.
