Nikki Cross recently addressed criticism about her previous ‘Nikki ASH’ gimmick, now that she has reverted to her old persona.
She debuted Nikki ASH, with superhero-like gear in June 2021. The acronym “ASH” stood for “Almost A Superhero.” The character grew more amusing than her previous gimmick.
She had a lot of success with the character, especially when she won the 2021 Money in the Bank match and the RAW Women’s Title.
In a Twitter post, artist Rob Downie stated that he personally received backlash from wrestling fans after assisting the WWE star in pitching her ‘ASH’ character. Nikki replied to his post with the following:
“They might not have liked it, but I loved my MITB Win, my Raw Women’s Championship run and history making 3 time Tag Team Championships reign (1st woman to do so) and multiple wins as 24/7 champ. I had convos with kids who adored it, dressed up like me and it warmed my heart.”
Nikki returned to her old character last month and has recently aligned herself with Damage CTRL.
Cross, Bayley, Dakota Kai, IYO SKY, and Rhea Ripley will compete in a WarGames match against Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Mia Yim, and a fifth competitor to be announced at next Saturday’s Survivor Series.
