Daniel Cormier did his job as special guest referee for the Fight Pit showdown between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at WWE Extreme Rules 2022 on Saturday night to the best of his ability.
The former double champion and broadcast team member for the UFC said as much during a WWE.com exclusive backstage interview with Cathy Kelley after the show at the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
When asked about the match between Riddle and Rollins, the MMA legend noted that it ended their intense and very personal rivalry the way it needed to be — in a very true fashion.
“Those guys fought,” Cormier said. “You knew a rivalry like that needed an ending like that.”
Cormier continued, “Something very true. Something that cannot be questioned and Matt Riddle got it done. It was tremendous being inside the Fight Pit.”
Cathy Kelley then asked Cormier about the moment in the match where Seth “Freakin'” Rollins got physical with the mixed martial arts star.
“I had to put him in his place because he’s been disrespectful,” D.C. said. “He grabbed me when I was checking on Matt Riddle, but I said that I would be fair [and] I thought that I was that tonight.”
He wrapped up by pointing out his belief that he did his job to the best of his ability on Saturday night.
“I came here to do a job and I thought I did that job to the best of my ability,” Cormier concluded.
