It’s Wednesday night, and you know what that means …

All Elite Wrestling returns with their latest edition of Dynamite. This week’s show features the annual Grand Slam theme, coming live from Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York.

Scheduled for tonight’s show is the finals of the tournament of champions to crown the vacant AEW Champion, with Bryan Danielson vs. Jon Moxley.

Also on tap for tonight’s AEW on TBS program is an AEW World Tag Title match with Swerve In Our Glory vs. The Acclaimed 2, Claudio Castagnoli vs. Chris Jericho for the ROH title. There will also be an AEW All-Atlantic Title match with PAC defending against Orange Cassidy, as well as an AEW Interim Women’s Title bout pitting Toni Storm vs. Serena Deeb vs. Athena vs. Britt Baker.

AEW GRAND SLAM DYNAMITE RESULTS (9/21/2022)

This week’s show kicks off with the usual theme and then the video package airs before we head inside Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York. We see a jam-packed house in NYC as the commentators welcome us to the show.

ROH World Championship
Claudio Castagnoli (C) vs. Chris Jericho

From there, we head down to the ring for our opening action. The commentators are joined by Ian Riccaboni for the call of our first match of the evening. With that said, Chris Jericho’s theme hits and out he comes as the ROH ring announcer brings him out. The fans sing along with “Judas” as he heads to the ring for this title contest.

As he settles in the ring, the theme song for the leader of the J.A.S. wraps up and then the entrance tune for his opponent, Blackpool Combat Club’s own Claudio Castagnoli, plays. Out comes the ROH Champion for his defense of the title in our first of several championship matches scheduled here tonight at AEW Grand Slam: Dynamite.

ROH Hall of Fame legend Cary Silkin is shown watching from a special seat at ringside as the crowd takes in the sights one final time before the first bell of the evening. The bell sounds after that and we’re off-and-running with this ROH Championship contest between Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Jericho.

Castagnoli closes in for the “code of honor” handshake but Jericho instead takes the opportunity to connect with a wide-open cheap shot. Claudio fires back with some European uppercuts that lights the crowd on fire as much, if not more than it does his opponent. Jericho tries fighting back but Castagnoli starts off strong and has the J.A.S. leader on his heels.

Jericho finally lands a low blow that shifts the momentum in his favor. He leaps off the ropes for a kick but ends up getting sent to the floor by Castagnoli. Excalibur talks about some of the action still to come this evening as Claudio and Jericho re-engage on the floor at ringside. The ROH Champion gets in some more offense and then Jericho hides behind the aforementioned Silkin and uses the opportunity to take over control of the action. He throws Cary down in an unnecessary heel act afterwards.

The action resumes inside the ring where Jericho settles into the offensive driver’s seat. Claudio is on the defensive for a few moments but then he shifts things back into his favor. The two trade forearms on the ring apron outside the ropes. Jericho uses an eye-rake to take over and follows up by suplexing Claudio to the floor before we head to a mid-match commercial break as the action in our opening contest continues.

As we settle back in from the break, we see Jericho still in the offensive lead. Claudio is placed on the top rope and Jericho follows up after. Jericho leaps and looks for a hurricanrana, but Claudio catches him and holds him in mid-air with pure strength. He goes to hoist him up from there for a super avalanche power bomb off the top, but Jericho executes a counter in mid-air for a huge spot that pops the crowd and the commentary team.

We see some more big shots and high spots back-and-forth between these two, including some near falls here and there. The commentators hype up the fact that this is only our first of several title matches here tonight. Claudio takes over and sets up Jericho for the Giant Swing. He gets it but Jericho escapes and then goes for the cover, but we see a kick out before the count of three.

Castagnoli immediately slaps Jericho in a sharpshooter and cranks back on Jericho as the camera pans out and shows a nice wide shot of the massive crowd in attendance here at Arthur Ashe Stadium for this special Grand Slam edition of AEW Dynamite. Claudio leaps off the middle rope into a Code breaker from Jericho for a near fall and then takes back over.

This time he gets the Giant Swing and swings Jericho for well over 10-15 times. The two trade offensive leads again a couple of times leading into the finish, which sees Jericho hit a blatant low blow that the referee doesn’t see, followed by a Judas Effect back-elbow for the pin fall victory. With the win, Chris Jericho becomes the new ROH World Champion.

Special Look At Tonight’s Main Event

A special video package airs to hype up the main event of the evening for the vacant AEW Championship airs now showing the paths that Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley took to get to the finals of the Tournament of Champions here tonight at AEW Grand Slam: Dynamite. We then tease the upcoming AEW tag-team title rematch coming up after the break. On that note, we head to another commercial time-out.

Swerve In Our Glory (C) vs. The Acclaimed

We return from the break to a sky blimp shot outside of Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, N.Y. before the commentators talk us through a quick recap of the opening contest, which saw the ROH title change hands.

From there, we return live and hear the theme for Shane “Swerve” Strickland playing. Out he comes along with his tag-team partner, Keith Lee. Swerve In Our Glory head to the ring for their defense of the AEW Tag-Team Championships. They have rap star Fabolous in their corner.

The duo settle inside the ring and then their music dies down. Now the entrance tune for their opponents plays, and the crowd goes wild as The Acclaimed make their way out. Max Caster does his rhyme gimmick while Anthony Bowens closes and Billy Gunn accompanies them all-the-while.

After the bell sounds, we get our second match of the evening, our second of many title matches scheduled here tonight, underway. We see some hot back-and-forth early exchanges from these two teams, both of whom come out of the gate with a ton of energy. Things settle with Keith Lee and Max Caster in the ring. After Lee steam-rolls Caster the two re-engage standing up where Lee again pushes things into his realm, dominating things thus far.

Caster goes for an arm-drag but Lee stands strong and doesn’t budge. Caster ends up countering a spot and taking Lee down a moment later. We see Shane “Swerve” Strickland break-up the scissor me daddy gimmick from Caster and Bowens. After that, we head to a mid-match commercial break as the action continues.

We return from the break and see Caster still in control of the action. He hoists Lee up for a big slam spot and ends up connecting with it despite the size difference. Caster makes the tag to Bowens after that. Gunn helps fire the crowd up from ringside while Bowens goes on a hot tag offensive spree in the ring, taking out any and everything that moves until he is finally dropped by Strickland.

Swerve in our Glory take over from there and begin focusing their attack on the knee of Bowens, who as Schiavone points out on commentary, had surgery on not too long ago. We see Lee launch Bowens out to the entrance ramp. He focuses his attack on Caster after that. Swerve gets the boombox from The Acclaimed and decks Lee with it by accident. Caster hits the blockbuster off the top but hurts his knee on the mic drop follow-up.

Lee avoids being finished off by Caster and Bowens, and stumbles over to make the tag to Strickland. Caster slows him down with a back suplex, but still selling the affects of his knee after that. He heads to the top but Strickland runs over and punches him. Strickland goes for a death valley driver off the top into a big pounce from Lee, but they mis-time the spot and Caster avoids being put away. The match continues to a huge roar from the crowd.

Billy Gunn gets involved in the finish as he and Strickland stare each other down. Caster blasts Strickland, who turns to a FameAsser from Gunn. He is then thrown into the ring for The Arrival by Bowens and a Mic Drop by Caster for the pin fall victory. We have new AEW World Tag-Team Champions.

The Gunn Club Confronts FTR

Lexy Nair is standing by with FTR after the match. Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler give props to The Acclaimed for winning the AEW tag-team titles. The reigning AAA, IWGP and ROH Tag-team Champions give them praise but say they want a shot at the titles. They are interrupted by The Gunn Club who mock them before walking off. The segment ends and we head to another commercial break.

MJF, W. Morrissey Attacks Wheeler Yuta

We return from the break to see Tony Schiavone standing in the entrance aisle with Wheeler Yuta. He asks him about his fellow Blackpool Combat Club teammates Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson competing for the vacant AEW Championship in tonight’s main event. Before he can say anything, he is interrupted.

The theme for MJF hits and the Queens crowd goes nuts. “Questionable Queens, the Devil has arrived!” begins Maxwell Jacob Friedman. The fans chant his name and he says because the fans worship the ground he walks on, that makes them his loyal devil worshippers. He asks Schiavone, “the fat old prick” how he’s doing and then brings up Yuta standing in shock because of the reaction he just saw MJF get. He says he never will get that kind of reaction.

He calls him a mid-carder and then says the crowd worships him. He says there isn’t a single fan who wouldn’t let him sleep with their wife, noting the only reason he doesn’t do that is because he has standards. He calls himself a generational talent. Yuta tells MJF that what he says has some truth to it. He says he’s got more catchphrases than anyone and is the king of the low-hanging fruit. He says speaking of which, someone got engaged recently.

He tells MJF not to worry because he’s not as low as him and won’t go there. He tells MJF his soon-to-be wife is smart and smart enough to realize that MJF is a spineless, worthless piece of human garbage. He tells MJF that she’s gonna walk out on him the same way he walked out on all of them. MJF tells the fans to give it up for Wheeler. He says he’s gone from paint trying to pet rock personality.

He says the real reason he came out is to wish the men in the Blackpool Cuckhold Club good luck in their showdown for the title later tonight. He says they’re really just fighting to see who is going to lose the title to Maxwell Jacob Friedman. He says insulting things about each member and when he mentions William Regal teaching others how to pop-pills, Yuta blasts him with a cheap shot. MJF decks him back and then hits a cheap shot on Schiavone.

Yuta fires back and takes MJF down but is attacked from behind by W. Morrissey, who lays him out after choking him out. MJF follows up with some cheap shots for good measure and that’s how this segment wraps up.

AEW All-Atlantic Championship
Orange Cassidy vs. PAC (C)

After a quick backstage segment featuring Jade Cargill hyping up her match at AEW Grand Slam: Rampage this coming Friday night, we head back inside Arthur Ashe Stadium where it’s time for our next of many title matches scheduled for tonight’s show.

The theme for the popular “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy plays and out he comes for this title opportunity. He will be going one-on-one against AEW All-Atlantic Champion “The Bastard” PAC here tonight.

PAC then makes his way out and he settles inside the ring. After his music dies down, the bell sounds and we get our third championship match of the evening underway. We see these two engage right off the bat and Cassidy starts getting in some offense.

It isn’t long before PAC takes over control of the offense. We see “The Bastard” take over at ringside, bringing the punishment to the “Freshly Squeezed” one. PAC rams Cassidy into the steel ring post and the commentators mention how Cassidy has a glazed over look in his eyes after taking the big shot.

We see some more back-and-forth action until PAC again starts to shift the momentum in his favor. After that, we head to a mid-match commercial break as the AEW All-Atlantic Champion continues to dominate the action.

As we settle back in from the break, we see PAC dominating Cassidy, who is brutalized and battered. He starts defying PAC while on his knees, giving him the half-hearted thumbs up, which angers “The Bastard,” PAC blasts Cassidy with a big kick to the dome before heading to the top-rope with designs on connecting with his Black Arrow finisher.

Cassidy ends up avoiding it and after showing off once again how little he is phased by PAC, Cassidy starts to pick up the pace and shift the offensive momentum in his favor. He hits a diving DDT that levels PAC and the crowd lights up as he looks to close in on the potential win. Cassidy flies over for two DDTs in a row. PAC ends up cutting him off in his next offensive attempt, which also kills the noise from the crowd momentarily.

We see Cassidy avoid a couple of near falls and then he blasts PAC with an Orange Punch. He goes for another big spot into a pin attempt, but PAC makes it to the ropes before the count of three. Soon after this, PAC manages to finish this one off with the hammer for the ring bell and score the pin fall victory. With the win, PAC becomes the first champion to walk into the ring with his title and walk back out with it again after the bell sounds for a second time.

AEW Interim Women’s Championship
Britt Baker vs. Serena Deeb vs. Athena vs. Toni Storm (C)

We head to another commercial break after PAC retains his AEW All-Atlantic Championship. When we return from the break, we see a roof shot of the packed house inside Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, N.Y. The theme for Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. hits and out comes the first of four competitors involved in tonight’s scheduled AEW Interim Women’s Championship contest.

Baker makes her way to the ring and settles inside and her music dies down. The theme for Serena Deeb plays after that and she heads to the squared circle as well. The commentators then sing the praises of “The Fallen Goddess” as Athena’s music hits and she heads out. With all three challengers in the ring now, the theme for the reigning, defending AEW Interim Women’s Champion plays and out comes Toni Storm to the ring.

All four women are in the ring and the bell now sounds to get this one off-and-running. Our fourth of five scheduled title matches here tonight at AEW Grand Slam: Dynamite is now officially underway. Storm and Athena take out Deeb and Baker and then begin duking it out among themselves.

The crowd is into the action early on. We see Athena and Storm trading offensive leads early on until the other two make their way back into the action. Deeb takes Storm and Athena out before going for a near fall of her own. Tony Schiavone points out that we should watch for shenanigans as we see Baker and Rebel talking at ringside.

We build to a big stacked spot off the top-rope in the corner of the ring and then we head to a mid-match commercial break as the action in this four-woman interim title contest continues here in the co-main event of AEW Grand Slam: Dynamite from Arthur Ashe Stadium.

As we settle back in from the break, we see all four women going at it tooth-and-nail, as this one begins to ride into the finish. We see Athena nearly pull off the upset on a few occasions, but ultimately it is Storm with a simple roll-up that secures the three-count and allows her to retain the AEW Interim Women’s Championship.

Saraya-Jade Bevis Makes Her Way To AEW

After the match, Britt Baker, with a badly busted nose or tooth according to Taz on commentary, attacks Storm from behind.

Out of nowhere, Saraya Jade-Bevis, better known to fans as Paige, makes her way out. She cleans house and as the commentators point out, the landscape of the AEW women’s division has just completely changed overnight. The crowd goes nuts as Saraya plays to the jam-packed house inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Darby Allin Is Headed To A Funeral …

We shoot to a quick vignette from Darby Allin. The video features a body bag on a bus or some sort of public transportation. Finally we see Darby Allin appear and he mentions that he is going to a funeral at AEW Grand Slam: Rampage. We return live and Excalibur plugs Darby Allin & Sting vs. The House of Black at this Friday’s show.

We then run down the rest of the action scheduled for AEW Grand Slam night two at the two-hour special edition of AEW Rampage on TNT this Friday night. From there, we head to another commercial break.

AEW Tournament Of Champions Finals (For Vacant AEW Championship)
Jon Moxley vs. Bryan Danielson

We return from the break inside Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, N.Y. where we hear the familiar sounds of the entrance theme music of Jon Moxley play. “Wild Thing” jams out in the massive house as Mox makes his custom entrance through the crowd as the commentators set the stage for our main event.

Now the theme for his opponent, fellow Blackpool Combat Club member Bryan Danielson begins playing. As “The American Dragon” heads to the ring, we hear William Regal settling in on special guest commentary as he joins the team for the call of our headline bout of the evening. A new AEW World Champion will be crowned by the end of this match.

With Mox and Danielson both in the ring, we hear the ring announcer break down the official ring introductions and then the bell sounds to get this one off-and-running. Our final of the AEW Tournament of Champions is about to get underway.

As the first bell sounds to get this one started, we see these two collide in the center of the ring full-throttle. They aren’t hesitating in getting after it in this one despite being friends and fellow members of the Blackpool Combat Club. We see Mox fire away at Danielson, who ends up tripping him down before chopping the piss out of him standing.

He takes Mox down and works some submission attempts, however Mox hangs on and eventually escapes. The two trade back-and-forth shots in the center of the ring as the crowd reacts to each one that lands.

From there, we see Danielson settle into the offensive driver’s seat. He takes it to Mox with repeated “Yes!” kicks, and the crowd chants along with each shot as it connects. He ends up over-committing on a high spot off the ropes after this, and this allows Mox to take over control of the offense.

We see some back-and-forth shots landing from each guy and then Danielson takes over and hoists Mox up to the top turnbuckle. He follows up after him and looks for a flying cross-armbreaker, however Mox gets tripped up and crashes and burns. Danielson sends Mox heels-over-head on the floor at ringside.

The crowd pops as the referee begins his count on both guys outside of the ring. Danielson brings Mox back in and comes off the top with a missile drop kick that connects.

Danielson blasts Mox with some more shots as he settles into a comfortable offensive lead. On that note, we head to a mid-match commercial break as our main event of the evening continues.

When we return from the break, we see MJF seated and looking bored in the arena holding his big chip that he can cash-in for a future title shot, as Danielson and Mox continue to go at it in this, our main event of the evening here on the special annual edition of AEW Grand Slam: Dynamite.

Mox begins taking over and he focuses his attack on the leg of Danielson, which as the commentators point out was softened up in Danielson’s match against Chris Jericho on last week’s show. We see Mox slap on a single-leg boston crab and an ankle lock on “The American Dragon.”

Now we see Danielson take Mox over and the two head up to the top-rope. Danielson escapes out the back door and he crotches Mox on the top. Danielson takes Mox down the hard way off the top, but also hurts his own knee in the process. Danielson looks for the finish, but Mox counters and applies Danielson’s own LeBelle Lock on him.

He cranks back but Danielson ends up transitioning over into mount. He throws down ground and pound as Mox throws up elbow strikes from the bottom. The two turn and we see them both push-up while their legs are locked together. Danielson ends up hammering down on Mox. He locks in the cattle mutiliation submission and it looks back for Mox, however he manages to avoid being finished off.

We see Mox connect with a King Kong Lariat for a near finish, however Danielson avoids being finished and he hits a big running knee off the ropes for a close pin fall attempt of his own. We see even MJF looked surprised that this one wasn’t over there.

Now from his knees, we see Mox waving Danielson on, asking for punishment. Mox ends up chopping down the kick attempt of Danielson and he goes after the ankle of Danielson. He hits his death rider for a close near fall, but Danielson somehow kicks out before the count of three.

Danielson does the spot where he holds onto Mox’s hands and stomps all over him, ala “Rugged” Ronnie Garvin in his prime years. Mox ends up taking Danielson down but from his butt, Danielson slams kicks down onto Mox. Danielson ends up pulling Mox into a triangle attempt from his back. Mox rolls but Danielson then transitions into a LeBelle Lock. He cranks back as the crowd explodes. Mox crawls with his feet and makes it to the ropes, forcing the hold to be broken up.

Danielson comes off the top with a flying knee onto Mox on the entrance aisle. Mox ends up hitting his death rider on the aisle way to Danielson. He nearly scores the pin off of that, however Danielson hangs on. Mox locks in a rear naked choke on Danielson in the ring. Danielson fights it and makes it to his feet.

He pushes his feet off the ropes but Mox rolls with him. Mox still has the choke. “The American Dragon” fades and eventually is out. Mox wins and is once again the AEW Champion. Jon Moxley wins the Tournament of Champions finals to re-capture the title once again. Great main event.

We see MJF watching on still with his big chip. The commentators promote this Friday’s special two-hour AEW Grand Slam: Rampage show. That’s how this week’s show wraps up. Thanks for joining us.
