On night two of Fighting Spirit Unleashed on September 11, KENTA will face Jeff Cobb, with the right to challenge for the IWGP US Heavyweight Championship at stake. During New Japan Cup USA, Jeff Cobb was all set to send KENTA on a Tour of the Islands that would have seen him sent to the finals. KENTA would pull the referee into Cobb’s path however, and in the ensuing confusion, a low blow and a roll-up brought ‘Lil’K’ victory.
KENTA would go on to win the New Japan Cup USA by defeating David Finlay, but just as he was declaring that 2020 was still his year, Cobb returned and almost threw the cup winner out of his boots. making his designs on the freshly created red briefcase abundantly clear, it was only a matter fo time before this match was made official.
On September 4, Flip Gordon goes one on one with Switchblade Jay White. Jay White made his return to NJPW rings on the final night of New Japan Cup USA, in a tag team match that saw he and Chase Owens come out on the losing end of a tag bout with Gordon and Brody King. Not taking the defeat well, White would attempt a post match Bladerunner on Flip, only for Hikuleo to wreak havoc on his behalf. Post match, Gordon was eager to show the Switchblade what he could do one-on-one and White was uncharacteristically gracious in his acceptance. Is it still the Cut Throat Era in NJPW? Or will the Mercenary pull up to the pay window after September 4?
Also confirmed for September 4 is Hikuleo’s first match back from excursion opposite the gigantic Brody King. Haku’s youngest son ade his return to NJPW after his UK excursion in brutal form, immediately striking King with his Gunslinger facebuster. Having made a powerful statement, it’s now on Hikuleo to prove he can get the job done face to face with an angry and very violent monster opposite him.
September 4 will also see the NJPW debut of one Fred Rosser. Formerly of WWE, Rosser has competed all over the world, and now ‘Mr. No Days Off’ will now be testing his skills in the cerulean blue! Find out what Rosser can bring to the ring Friday September 4.
