4 Famous WWE Cage Matches That Will Never Be Forgotten

Wrestling matches comprise some of the most famous pastimes on the planet. While there are many wrestling outlets, none has achieved success and fame as WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). The success of WWE can be attributed to the iconic lineup of wrestlers, many of whom have gone on to become household names and Hollywood stars.

Among the many forms of traditional WWE wrestling, cage matches have always remained highly popular. There is something about the adrenaline rush of watching players battle it out in a closed cage with tables, ladders, and chairs that makes these matches so compelling.

Let’s take a look at four famous WWE cage matches that can never be forgotten.

Stone Cold Steve Austin VS Vince McMahon

On February 14, 1999, WWF held the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre with two iconic matches. One of them was the Last Man Standing showdown between The Rock and Mankind for the WWF Champion. The second showdown was Stone Cold Steve Austin against Vince McMahon in a steel cage fight for Steve Austin’s chance for Wrestlemania XV.

The match began with a cat and mouse chase that culminated in McMahon diving through the announcers’ table. While Steve Austin dominated the ring throughout the match, the wildcard debut of Big Show threw him off his game. He still managed to escape the cage and earn his spot in Wrestlemania XV.

Triple H VS Steve Austin

In No Way Out (2001), the longstanding rivalry between Triple H and Stone Cold Steve Austin reached the tipping point as they faced off in the Three Stages of Hell match. With each having won one of the three rounds, the final round took place in a steel cage with ruthless wrestling that left both sides bloody and exhausted. Triple H ended up winning the match. The match became an instant classic, thanks to the high-profile wrestlers.

Matt Hardy VS Edge

Widely regarded as one of the best matches ever played by Matt Hardy and Edge, this cage match was held in Unforgiven in 2005. Edge entered the cage with Lita, who tried her best to distract Matt Hardy with her tactics. Edge delivered some critical hits to Matt Hardy, but nothing could stop Matt Hardy from getting the upper hand. After dealing with Lita and punishing Edge, Hardy emerged as the victor. While both wrestlers went on to larger matches with more famous WWE stars, none was quite as brutal and memorable as this one.

Triple H VS Brock Lesnar

Triple H and Brock Lesnar faced off at Wrestlemania XXIX. The brutal No Holds Barred match saw the two wrestlers battle it out for victory. The match also saw appearances from Shawn Michaels and Paul Heyman. After a grueling battle in the cage, Triple H ultimately defeated Brock Lesnar and saved his career. The match was one of the most unforgettable showdowns in the history of WWE cage matches.
